Cookies?

Almost every morning and afternoon Henry wakes up and asks, "Cookies?" And he won't let it go. He has the memory of an elephant.

A while ago I decided that I didn't want to deprive him of the really good things in life like cookies and an occasionally brownie, thinking that I would feed him healthy food all the while and for a special occasion we'd eat a treat. I soon realized babies don't have the common desire to be healthy. They just know what tastes good no matter the time of day.

That's where "banana cookies" come in, and any other thing I want him to eat turns into "____ cookies". Sometimes coupling any word with "cookie" will get him to try it. Only for a couple bites, but a couple's better than none, right?

Dishwasher-less

We have been dishwasher-less since before we got married. While we dated we helped each other do our (and our roommate's) dishes. It was great time to talk. We also liked to listen to tunes and dance around--cheesy I know, but so fun. We still do that today, and I have to say that being dishwasher-less has been a blessing.

One of my favorite things to do--is not dishes alone--but it is dishes when it's with Todd. We have joked that one day when we do get a dishwasher we will not use it to wash our dishes, we'll use it for a cereal storage--that's what his grandfather and grandmother did. But then I stay at a sister's or friend's house that is equipped with one and I'm inclined to change my mind.

But not really. I enjoy the 30 or 60 minutes we have together washing, drying, talking and singing together. I wouldn't trade that precious time for a GE profile dishwasher with SmartDespense Technology any day.

Wait, did I just see a counter top dishwasher (this would fit nicely in our small kitchen)? On second thought . . .

Just kidding.

A Crack-Up

My favorite part of this video is his anticipation for the countdown. His smile and laugh makes me so happy.

We did this about 50 more times, and it never got old.

Dancing Raisins

Each month we look forward to receiving National Geographic Little Kids magazine because it's just awesome. This month's issue had a science project called Dancing Raisins. We tried it today and it is, bar none, Henry's favorite project so far.

Adding raisins

Watching them float

Sad the raisins were gone.

Lego Guitar

Todd made a Lego guitar for Henry, and he loves it. Last night I caught him sitting in his chair, strumming away on the invisible strings, singing with his guitar.

Holes

Instead of eating, he makes holes. One in each square. He does this with bagels, brownies, anything squishy. He's all about textures these days.

Love this kid

When did he change from my little baby to big boy?!

(The one above's my favorite)

This is him copying what I'm doing to try to get him to smile.

Some time during his "photo shoot" it became cool to stick his fingers in his mouth.

I think I took enough pictures . . . these pretty much sum up his cuteness.

Mr. Mom

We think he's joking, but Henry just won't call Dad, Dad or "dada". It's "mama", for both of us. I'm not sure when it happened, but "dada" just phased out and we're both "mama" now. Poor Todd. Henry pats Todd's chest, looks at him lovingly and names him "mama". Although it's really cute, it's just not right. Again, we (like to) think he's joking. He is a funny boy.

On top of that, Henry has picked up on all the things that I do, namely vacuuming and walking around in shiny heels--ALL around the house.

He vacuumed like this for about 15 minutes. He would stall over crumbs and dirt and make a louder "brrrrr" sound, like he was really sucking that stuff up with his stick. Eventually I gave in and vacuumed--I figured he was hinting. I almost didn't want to, he was so cute! I figure our floor gets dirty soon enough and he would be back at it in no time.

The red shoes:
around the couch
the kitchen
his room
and up the stairs.
He loves them.
Pointing down at the button he declares,
"ball, ball, ball".

What a funny boy.

"Potato Peel chick book"

Last night Todd and I sat down to "A Charlie Brown Christmas". With Ben and Jerry's Chubby Hubby in Todd's hand, and Haagen-Dazs Mango sorbet in mine I offered, "Todd, do you want some of mine?"

With an almost disgusted look he replies, "No, thank you. That's like me asking you if you want to read my [looking around the room and spotting his textbook] Numerical Methods for Chemical Engineering book while you were reading your potato peel chick book." And a big spoonful of "fudge covered peanut butter filled pretzels in vanilla malt" landed in his mouth.

I got it.

He was right, my "potato peel chick book" did equal in literary deliciousness to Chubby Hubby. There was no way I would put my delicious book down for such a boring one. (Clarification: Haagen-Dazs' Mango sorbet is not boring, it's full of flavor, yummy and fat free.) The book, however, is not called, "Potato Peel Chick Book". It's, and brace for it: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Long title, but an amazing book.

It is an epistolary novel--written in a series of letters--and is a tale about a society formed during the German occupation on the island of Guernsey (in the English Channel), and a writer, Juliet, who aimed at writing a book about the society.

This book was my Chubby Hubby anytime I could find a quiet moment to read, even if that meant staying up late to read it. I loved it and I highly recommend it!!
