The Hot Spot

I wasn't going crazy, but I was sure the the center of the floor in our second bedroom was heating up. I stepped in the room to put clothes away or check emails and I could feel the carpet getting warmer day after day, but just in one spot in the center of the room; the diameter of the hot spot was about 12". I didn't know what to attribute it to until I noticed that the vacant apt. below us had their bedroom light on. I think the cleaners must have left it on, and it had been on for about a week. I began to get worried. Our carpet was really heating up--almost too hot for me to stand on--and I decided I had to do something about it. What if it just kept getting hotter? And, who would pay for the electricity bill? I told Todd that it would be adventuresome to try to break in through a window and turn it off ourselves, but he wasn't really up for that. He suggested that the light was intentionally kept on to make people think it was occupied. I didn't believe him 100% and decided I would break in later. After all, I was trying to keep our apt. from burning up. But, on my way up the stairwell after taking out the trash I was curious to see if their front door was unlocked since it was vacant. Sadly it was. After telling Todd about my disappointment at losing an adventure I told him I would just walk in and turn it off. I went back down stairs, opened the door, and entered the freaky, empty apt. I turned off the light and quickly ran out. Today the hot spot is gone. Phew. I just hope I don't get in trouble . . .

How funny that a light was making your floor hot! I wouldn't have thought of that!
